Bangalore Terriers return to Bengaluru after Jammu & Kashmir tenure

The 106 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) PARA, popularly known as the Bangalore Terriers, has returned to its permanent location in Bengaluru after a field tenure in Jammu & Kashmir that ran from June 2023 to September 2026.

During the deployment, the battalion operated in an intense counter-terrorist environment. It is currently commanded by Colonel Tejas B. Candade, who is from 2 PARA (Special Forces).

The unit also performed strongly in training competitions, winning the Inter-Battalion Platoon Competition held under the aegis of the Formation Headquarters. The Ministry of Defence said the battalion's high training standards were appreciated by various Formation Commanders in the chain of command.

According to the Ministry, the Bangalore Terriers have returned home with valuable operational experience, enhanced training standards and renewed confidence. It said the battalion is proud of its legacy, enriched by its field experience and ready to take on future challenges.

Raised on October 1, 1960, at Jalandhar Cantonment, the battalion was initially affiliated to The Punjab Regiment. It moved its permanent location to Bengaluru in 1966 and was affiliated to The Parachute Regiment in 1979.

Its operational record includes participation in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, during which its troops captured 36 Pakistani SSG Commandos near Adampur in Punjab. The battalion also provided humanitarian assistance during the 1999 Odisha Super Cyclone under Operation Sahayta.

N.A. Haris, chairman of the Bengaluru Development Authority, welcomed the battalion on behalf of the Karnataka government and the people of Bengaluru.
