Maharashtra Mother Wins Marathon Barefoot in Saree, Prize for Daughter's Fees
A 47-year-old mother from Beed won a marathon running barefoot in a saree, using the Rs 3,000 prize for her daughter's education.
In a striking display of grit, a 47-year-old mother from Ambajogai in Maharashtra's Beed district emerged victorious in a local marathon, running barefoot while wearing a saree. Ramabai Ranveer's win was not just a personal triumph but a step toward securing her daughter's education.
The 'Amrit Daud' was organized as part of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations by the Kholeshwar Educational Complex of Bharatiya Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha. The route stretched from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Bhagyanagar Chowk, drawing a large number of young participants from the area.
Ramabai arrived at the starting point in a simple saree and slippers, blending in as an ordinary competitor. As the race began, her slippers began to slip, hampering her pace. In a quick decision, she removed them, held them in her hands, and continued running barefoot.
Despite the discomfort of running on the road and the challenge of managing her saree, she stayed focused. Her determination allowed her to overtake several younger runners clad in sports shoes and track suits, crossing the finish line first.
The victory drew applause from spectators and organizers, who were moved by her resolve. The Rs 3,000 prize money, she said, would go toward her daughter's studies, making the achievement especially meaningful for her family.
