Beed mother wins marathon, prize money to fund daughters' education

A 47-year-old mother from Beed district in Maharashtra has won a local marathon, with the prize money earmarked for her daughters' education. Ramabai Ranveer, a domestic cook and the family's sole breadwinner, finished first in the 'Amrut Daud marathon' held in Ambajogai on August 29.

The 3-km race, organised to mark the 75th anniversary of the Bharatiya Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha, saw Ranveer run barefoot in a saree, holding her sandals in hand. A video of her run has since gone viral on social media.

Ranveer, who works as a cook to support her two daughters, said she runs daily for her children's future. One daughter is pursuing a B.Sc. degree, while the other, Pooja, is preparing for the police recruitment exam. Pooja, who finished second in the same event, encouraged her mother to participate and praised her determination.

Speaking to media, Ranveer said she was focused on winning and plans to use the ₹3,000 prize money to buy books and meet other needs of her children. Her husband died in an accident in Mumbai, and the family has since relied on her income and farming work.

The event route ran from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Bhagyanagar Chowk in Ambajogai.
