Belagavi ZP's CET-Saksham Coaching Yields IIT, Medical Seats for Government College Students

Eight students from government pre-university colleges across Belagavi district have secured admission to IITs and medical colleges under the government quota, following training under the zilla panchayat's 'CET-Saksham' module.

Rahul Shinde, the ZP chief executive officer, congratulated the students, their teachers and the zilla panchayat staff who conducted training sessions and mock tests for the 2024-25 academic year.

Two students of the Government Pre-University College at Majalatti in Chikkodi taluk — Partha Akkole and Srihantha Bangari — have been admitted to IIT Dhanbad in Jharkhand and IIT Rourkela in Odisha respectively.

Srushti Dasar and Varsha Gadad from the Government PU College in Bailhongal secured medical seats in Shivamogga and Kalaburagi.

Four more students from the Majalatti college have won medical seats: Lakshmi Badiger at the government medical college in Karwar, Priya Maradi at Sridevi Medical College in Tumakuru, Pushpa Obannavar at the government medical college in Chamarajanagar, and Keerthi Karikatti at BMCRI Medical College in Bengaluru.

Since the 2024-25 academic year, the zilla panchayat has held offline mock CET examinations. The 80-mark consolidated tests, carrying 20 marks per subject, are conducted on OMR sheets — on the second Saturday of every month for I PU students and on the fourth Saturday for II PU students from government colleges. Results are declared the following Monday, with online doubt-clearing sessions held on Tuesdays.

In 2025-26, as an upgraded part of the programme, an entrance examination was held for science students of the Government Pre-University Science College, Majalatti, and the Government Pre-University Science College, Bailahongala. The top performers were selected for the Super-50 programme.

Under the 'Super-500' programme, a group of 100 students received specialised capacity-building training to prepare for the NEET and JEE examinations, taking regular offline mock tests on OMR sheets that simulate the actual exam format.

A campus visit to IIT Dharwad was also organised on November 18, 2025, where students attended a guidance session and took part in practical training sessions.
