Belagavi House Fire Kills Six; CCTV Shows Man With Bucket Minutes Before Blaze

A house fire in Karnataka's Belagavi district that killed six members of a family is under renewed scrutiny after security camera footage showed an unidentified man approaching the home with a bucket shortly before the blaze began.
The fire broke out at the Damone family residence in Chavhat Galli on September 15. Among the dead was Gajanan Damone. Six members of the family lost their lives in the incident.
According to police reviewing CCTV footage, the man arrived near the house at about 1.58 am carrying a bucket. Roughly two minutes later, around 2 am, he was seen leaving the area without it. The fire is believed to have started soon after his departure, leading investigators to examine what transpired during that brief window and whether his presence was connected to the origin of the fire.
The case was initially registered at Market Police Station, where officers suspected a short circuit or a refrigerator blast as the possible cause. Following the emergence of the footage, police say they are pursuing both the electrical fault theory and the movements of the unidentified man.
Investigators have visited the site and are trying to trace the bucket seen in the video. Officers are also questioning residents of the area as part of efforts to identify the man captured on camera.
So far, police say no confirmed link has been established between the man and the deaths, and the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined.
