Belagavi begins land acquisition for four-lane road to Sambra airport

Belagavi district officials have started acquiring land for a four-lane road linking Sambra Airport to the city, and for the airport's expansion.

The Belagavi district administration has set in motion the process of acquiring land for a four-lane road connecting Sambra Airport to the city, alongside a parallel effort to secure additional land for expanding the airport itself. A survey for the expansion is currently under way.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, speaking to reporters in Belagavi on Saturday, said the existing road would be widened rather than rebuilt, keeping land acquisition needs to a minimum. He said the administration would speed up the acquisition process and that around ₹10 crore had been set aside for it. Construction is expected to start soon after the land is acquired.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, the four-laning has been planned keeping in mind the airport's future requirements, an anticipated rise in traffic and growing industrial activity in the surrounding region. The stretch from the airport to Nilji has already been widened, and work on the remaining portion is expected to begin shortly.

The upgraded road is expected to improve connectivity to the airport and support industrial and economic growth in the Sambra area.
