Belgorod drone attack kills five, wounds two dozen
Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia's Belgorod killed five and injured 24, including a child, damaging 34 residential buildings.
A series of Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian border city of Belgorod has left five people dead and at least two dozen injured, according to the regional administration. Among the wounded is a four-year-old boy.
The overnight attack caused significant damage across the city, with authorities reporting that 29 apartment blocks and five private houses were hit. Administrative buildings and several commercial facilities were also damaged in the strikes.
Video footage from the scene showed firefighters battling a large blaze on the roof of an apartment building, with thick smoke billowing into the night sky. Debris littered the streets, and at least one car was seen overturned near the damaged structures.
Russia's defence ministry said its air defence systems intercepted 153 Ukrainian drones overnight, including over the annexed Crimean peninsula and the Black and Azov Seas. The ministry did not specify how many drones reached their targets in Belgorod.
The attack is among the deadliest in the region in recent weeks, underscoring the continued volatility along the Russia-Ukraine border. Belgorod, which lies roughly 40 kilometres from the Ukrainian frontier, has frequently come under fire since the conflict began.
