Benaka to host month-long Karantha Maasa in September
Benaka's September festival honours B.V. Karanth with plays, workshops, and a Dharwad tour, supported by Tekion's CSR.
Bengaluru's theatre repertory Benaka (Bengaluru Nagara Kalavidaru) will celebrate the 98th birth anniversary of its founder, thespian B.V. Karanth, with a month-long festival titled 'Karantha Maasa' throughout September. The programme will feature theatre performances, workshops, music, and other cultural events that reflect Karanth's artistic legacy and his commitment to making theatre accessible to wider audiences.
The festivities begin with a three-show theatrical tour to Dharwad on September 5 and 6. On September 16, a theatre festival at Kalagrama in Bengaluru will open with 'Baba Karantha', a biographical play depicting Karanth's life and contributions. From September 18 to 22, a workshop at Ravindra Kalakshetra will delve into contemporary theatre practices and challenges, including the growing role of Artificial Intelligence. Alongside the workshop, the plays 'Hayavadana', 'Sattavara Neralu', and 'Gokula Nirgamana' will be staged on September 18, 21, and 22 respectively.
Tekion, a U.S.-based automotive retail technology company, announced a partnership with Benaka on Sunday to support Karantha Maasa as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
