Bengaluru Police Arrest Assam Man in Partner's Death After Post-Mortem Reveals Smothering

Bengaluru police have arrested a man from Assam in connection with the death of his 21-year-old partner, whose body was found at a rented house in Naganathapura. The case, initially treated as an unnatural death, was converted into a murder investigation after a post-mortem report pointed to asphyxia.

The accused, Munnadas, a resident of Lakhipur in Assam, had befriended the woman, Champoodas, who was also from Assam, and brought her to Bengaluru. The two had been living together as tenants in the Naganathapura house.

On August 30, the house owner approached the Parappana Agrahara police after finding the woman dead under suspicious circumstances. The complainant raised suspicions about the man living with her. Police registered an unnatural death report (UDR) and began investigating.

The post-mortem report, received on September 15, stated that the cause of death was asphyxia and that violent asphyxia due to smothering could not be ruled out. Acting on the findings, police converted the case into a murder case.

Munnadas was secured near Rayasandra on September 16 and questioned. He was produced before a court the same day and remanded in judicial custody.
