Bengaluru Police Rescue 529 Child Labourers, Register 105 Cases
Bengaluru City Police rescued 529 child labourers and registered 105 cases against employers during a special operation across 6,076 establishments.
A special operation by the Bengaluru City Police has led to the rescue of 529 child labourers and the registration of 105 cases against employers who allegedly engaged them.
The drive, carried out on September 12 on the directions of senior police officers, involved surprise inspections at 6,076 commercial establishments, industrial areas and other locations across the city. Special teams made up of police personnel and Labour Department officials conducted the checks.
Children found working at various establishments were taken into the care of the authorities concerned for further action. The cases registered so far have been booked under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.
Among the city divisions, the West Division recorded the highest number of rescued children at 103, followed by the North Division with 66, Central with 63, South with 52 and North-East with 47. The East Division rescued 74 children and registered 18 cases, while the Central Crime Branch rescued 45 children and registered the highest number of cases at 26.
On the cases front, the North-East Division registered 17 cases and the West Division 15. The police said action against establishments employing children would continue.
