Bengaluru police arrest two in drug bust, seize amphetamine worth ₹43 lakh
Two men were arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly peddling banned drugs, with seizures valued at ₹43 lakh in the market.
The Jeevan Bima Nagar police in Bengaluru have arrested two men on charges of peddling banned drugs, recovering amphetamine and suspected narcotic substances along with a two-wheeler and two mobile phones.
The accused have been identified as Abdul Jabir, 28, a POP worker and resident of Rajendra Nagar in Vivek Nagar, and Asgar Ali R., 31, a lab technician from Neelasandra, also in Vivek Nagar. Neither has prior criminal cases, the police said.
Acting on a tip-off received on September 19, the police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and raided an open spot near the service road of Domlur Ring Road, where the two were allegedly selling banned narcotic substances. The initial seizure comprised 32 grams of amphetamine, the two-wheeler allegedly used in the offence and two mobile phones.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that they bought the drugs at low prices from unidentified persons outside the State and sold them at higher rates to members of the public, including college students, for profit.
Based on the information they provided, the police searched their apartment in Vivek Nagar and seized another 118 grams of amphetamine and 264 grams of suspected narcotic substances. In total, the seized items have been valued at ₹24 lakh, with a market value of around ₹43 lakh.
The two were produced before a court on September 20 and taken into police custody for five days. After further investigation, they were produced before the court again on September 22, which remanded them in judicial custody.
The investigation is continuing to identify the suppliers who allegedly provided the drugs to the accused.
