Bengaluru Police Sweep 575 Outlets Near Campuses, Book Four Drug Cases
East Division police checked 575 shops near Bengaluru schools and colleges, booking four drug cases and 282 tobacco-related violations.
Bengaluru's East Division police have intensified their crackdown on drug and contraband sales near educational institutions. As part of the ongoing 'Beda Bro' and 'RISE' campaigns, teams inspected 575 shops and commercial establishments located in the vicinity of schools and colleges.
The inspected premises included medical stores, hotels, grocery and stationery shops, mobile retailers, ice-cream parlours, and photocopy centres. Officers examined these outlets for narcotic substances, prohibited items, and any materials that could potentially be mixed with drugs and supplied to students. Food items and ice-cream products were also screened for suspicious substances.
During the drive, police registered four cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. In addition, 232 petty cases were booked, and 282 violations were recorded under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. Authorities also questioned 305 suspicious individuals and seized 27 vehicles as part of the operation.
Beyond commercial checks, police personnel visited campuses and held 125 meetings with principals, heads of institutions, and management representatives. These discussions centred on student safety, discipline, drug-abuse prevention, and identifying suspicious activity around campus premises.
Officers have advised educational institutions to remain alert to strangers loitering near campuses and to watch for individuals attempting to lure students into drug abuse or other unlawful activities. The East Division police have stated that the special drive will continue, and they have urged the public and school authorities to report any suspicious behaviour around educational institutions immediately.
