Woman abducted over love marriage rescued after getaway car crashes in Bengaluru

A 21-year-old woman who was allegedly abducted by a gang sent by her family was rescued by police in Bengaluru after the vehicle carrying her met with a series of collisions, leaving six people injured.

The woman, Pooja, is a native of Melwas village in Rajasthan and the daughter of Gunaramu. She had married Om Prakash, 23, also from Melwas, in a love marriage about eight to nine months ago, against the wishes of their families. The couple later moved to Bengaluru and settled in Agrahara Dasarahalli.

According to the police, Pooja's family, who did not accept the marriage, allegedly sent four men to Bengaluru to bring her back. The men are said to have entered the couple's residence and abducted her before fleeing in a car.

The situation turned dangerous around 8 p.m. when the driver allegedly drove the vehicle recklessly and collided with several vehicles. Six people were injured in the crashes and are undergoing treatment.

The injured have been identified as Prithviraj, 12; Yashika, 9; Amul, 35; Mani, 64; Jayalakshmi, 57; and Santosh, 33. Jayalakshmi sustained a head injury and is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Police have arrested three of the alleged abductors — Rakesh, 31, Karan, 25, and Ayan, 18 — all from Rajasthan, and rescued Pooja. The alleged driver, Saddam, is absconding.

The vehicle allegedly used in the abduction has been seized, and the accused are in police custody. Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the abduction and the possible involvement of others.
