Bengaluru Mother Held After Twin Infants Found Dead, Suicide Attempt
A Bengaluru woman allegedly killed her twin daughters and attempted suicide. Police have registered a case.
A woman in Bengaluru's Vajrahalli area is accused of killing her four-month-old twin daughters before attempting suicide at her residence on Tuesday afternoon.
The father, Ramalingappa, returned home to find a room locked from inside. After forcing the door open, he discovered his wife, Umadevi, attempting to take her own life. The twin girls were found dead in the same room. Doctors at Shankar Hospital suspected the infants had drowned.
Police, acting on the father's complaint, allege Umadevi caused her daughters' deaths before the suicide attempt. The family had reportedly observed a change in her behaviour after childbirth, noting disinterest in the children and repeated talk of sending them to an ashram. She had been undergoing psychiatric treatment for postpartum depression and hormonal imbalance.
The Talaghattapura Police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are investigating.
