Bengaluru Metro Pink Line’s 7.5-km Stretch Ready, Inauguration Awaits Centre’s Nod
Bengaluru’s 7.5-km Pink Line stretch is ready; inauguration awaits Centre’s date, likely in September.
The long-delayed 7.5-km elevated stretch of Bengaluru’s Pink Line, running from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, is now complete and ready for public use. Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said on Wednesday that the inauguration will take place as soon as the Government of India confirms a date.
“We are ready. As soon as the date is given by the Government of India, this stretch will be inaugurated and opened to people for commuting,” he said. The minister also expressed hope that the Centre’s approval for an inauguration date would come within September.
The Pink Line is a 21.3-km corridor connecting Kalena Agrahara in the south to Nagawara in the north. Of this, 13.8 km runs underground through key central areas such as Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, while the remaining 7.5 km is elevated.
The project has faced repeated delays, missing several deadlines and drawing criticism from commuters. Earlier, Mr. Gowda had indicated that the elevated section would be operational by August 15, 2026, and the underground stretch from Tavarekere to Nagawara is slated for completion by March 2027.
Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to significantly improve north–south metro connectivity in Bengaluru.
