Bengaluru private transport body threatens bandh over aggregator issues
Private transport operators in Bengaluru have protested against taxi aggregators and threatened a bandh if demands are not met within 15 days.
The Federation of Private Transport Organisations in Bengaluru has escalated its stand against taxi aggregators, warning of a city-wide bandh if its demands are not addressed within a fortnight.
The federation staged a protest on Friday and submitted a formal complaint to the Transport Commissioner, outlining a set of demands. These include restricting taxi aggregator apps on platforms like the Play Store and other marketplaces, implementing a uniform "One City, One Fare" system, and initiating criminal action against companies operating without proper licences.
Federation president Nataraj Sharma stated that the government has been given a 15-day deadline to respond. If no action is taken, the federation will call for a Bengaluru bandh. As a first step, private transport operators would display black flags on their vehicles to signal the start of the protest.
The move highlights the ongoing friction between traditional private transport operators and app-based aggregators in the city.
