Bengaluru school timings under review, says Karnataka minister

Karnataka will take a call on revising school timings in Bengaluru city after consulting various departments, Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa has said.

The minister said the Private Schools Association has sought a change in timings in view of traffic congestion in the city, and that a decision on the matter would be taken soon.

He was speaking at an event at St. Philomena's Institution in Attibele on Saturday.

Bangarappa also said there is a demand to consider teachers working in private schools for the State-level teacher's award. The government is examining the proposal, and a decision would be taken after consultations, he said.

Separately, a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Legislative Council Member Puttanna has made recommendations on the renewal of recognition (RR) for private schools and on extending the House Rent Allowance (HRA) currently paid to government employees in Bengaluru city to teachers in government and aided schools in Bengaluru Rural district.

The minister said a decision on these recommendations would be taken after discussions.
