Bengaluru civic body fines PVR INOX, Forum Mall over waste violations

Bengaluru South City Corporation fined PVR INOX ₹75,000 and recovered ₹50,839 from Forum Mall for waste management and plastic ban violations.

The Bengaluru South City Corporation has levied fines amounting to ₹1.25 lakh on two commercial establishments for flouting waste management norms and the ban on single-use plastics.

At the PVR Cinemas (PVR INOX Limited) premises in Lakkasandra on Hosur Main Road, an inspection revealed that wet and dry waste were not being separated at source and that prohibited single-use plastics were in use. The corporation imposed a penalty of ₹75,000 on the establishment — ₹50,000 for the failure to segregate waste and ₹25,000 for the use of banned plastics. The entire amount was collected on the spot.

In a separate case, officials found sewage treatment plant waste dumped illegally near Shop Well Supermarket in Jayanagar Housing Society Layout, Uttarahalli, along Kanakapura Main Road. Following a tip-off from local residents, the waste was traced to Forum Mall. Staff at the mall are said to have acknowledged that the waste came from the establishment. A fine of ₹50,839 was imposed and recovered.

South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh instructed the establishments to segregate wet and dry waste at source and to dispose of waste scientifically. He also cautioned commercial establishments, including malls, cinema theatres and hotels, that stringent action would follow any violation of Solid Waste Management rules.
