Three arrested in Bengaluru for abduction, assault of woman over unpaid loans

Bengaluru police have taken three individuals into custody, including two women, following allegations that a 30-year-old woman was forcibly detained and assaulted over a financial dispute. The Chandra Layout police rescued the victim on August 31 after receiving a tip-off about her whereabouts.

The accused have been identified as Nazrath Begum, Reshma Banu, and Suhail. According to the complaint, the victim had borrowed ₹50,000 from Nazrath under a weekly-interest arrangement and an additional ₹1 lakh from Reshma about two years ago. While she had been paying ₹5,000 weekly to Nazrath, she had missed payments for two weeks. She had also not paid interest on the larger loan for six months.

Fearing repeated demands and threats from Reshma, the woman said she moved to her mother's house and later to a friend's residence. On August 27, Nazrath invited her to her home, ostensibly to give her money. When the victim arrived with her son, Reshma, Suhail, and two other men allegedly locked the door and demanded repayment.

The complainant stated that Suhail assaulted her, after which she and her son were forced into an autorickshaw and taken to Reshma's house in Kumbalgodu. There, she was beaten with a stick and confined to a room, with the assault continuing the following day. The victim also alleged that Nazrath stripped her and recorded a video on her phone, threatening to circulate it if the money was not repaid.

She was later taken to a lawyer near a market and made to sign documents before being brought back to the house. On August 31, she managed to slip out while using the toilet, and police arrived shortly after to rescue her.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. An investigator said the accused and the victim were known to each other and that the case stems from a financial dispute. Police are currently verifying the allegations made in the complaint.
