Bescom contract worker dies of electrocution in Devanahalli

A 39-year-old contract worker died on Wednesday evening after being electrocuted while working on a Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) pole near Sulibele Road in Devanahalli.

The deceased has been identified as Palayya, who was employed as a contract worker under Bescom contractor Ravish/Margadarulu Gangadhar.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. near the T.T. Bande Road and Marishammapalya Light area. Palayya had climbed the electricity pole to carry out work when he came into contact with a live electrical line, suffering a fatal shock. He died on the spot.

A complaint filed in connection with the incident has raised concerns about possible lapses in mandatory electrical safety procedures. These include adherence to Line Clearance/Shutdown protocols, adequate supervision, and the provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The complainant has called for a comprehensive investigation into the roles and potential negligence of the Bescom officials, the lineman, and the contractor responsible for the work.

The Devanahalli Police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation will examine the circumstances leading to the electrocution and is expected to review relevant Bescom records, including shutdown and line-clearance documents, work orders, and safety compliance records.
