Ganesh Pandal Organisers Must Secure NOC for Temporary Power

With the Gowri Ganesha festival approaching, communities across the city are erecting pandals for the celebrations. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has issued a clear directive for organisers: a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is mandatory before obtaining a temporary electricity connection.

Bescom officials have flagged the dangers of bypassing the formal process. Drawing power through makeshift hooks from nearby supply points is not only illegal but poses a serious threat to public safety. Such unauthorised connections risk electrocution and can lead to fatal accidents.

To streamline the process, a single-window system is currently operational under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Organisers must apply there for the NOC. This certificate, along with the organiser's passport-size photographs, Aadhaar card, and a copy of the festival pamphlet, must then be submitted to the respective Bescom sub-division office.

Bescom's vigilance teams will be active during the festival period. Any instance of power theft will attract penalties. Officials stress that safety measures are non-negotiable: lighting systems must be properly insulated and kept away from electricity poles. Pandal structures should maintain a safe distance from overhead wires, poles, and transformer stations.

Organisers are also advised to inform the sub-divisional officer about their procession routes in advance. This allows Bescom to provide necessary assistance and ensure safety along the way. Citizens are encouraged to report any live wires or electrical sparks by calling the 1912 helpline. Marking the area around electrical equipment as a 'Danger Zone' is also recommended to prevent accidents.
