Mann Launches AAP Door-to-Door Drive from Dhuri Ahead of 2027 Punjab Polls
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann kicked off AAP's statewide door-to-door campaign from Dhuri, highlighting welfare schemes and targeting the opposition ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday launched the Aam Aadmi Party's statewide door-to-door outreach campaign from Dhuri, aiming to carry the government's report card to households across the state ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Speaking at the start of the campaign, Mann pointed to a range of welfare measures rolled out by his government, including free electricity, free medical care through Aam Aadmi Clinics, free education in government schools and steps to cap fees in private schools. He also cited old-age pensions, free ration and financial assistance for women under the Mawan Diyan Yojana.
The Chief Minister claimed these initiatives had translated into average savings of about Rs 1.80 lakh per family. He said the purpose of the outreach was to communicate directly with people and inform them about the work done by the AAP government, adding that citizens were already aware of the benefits they had received.
Turning to the opposition, Mann said the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal were locked in internal disputes, and claimed the Akali Dal had been finished in Punjab politics. He also took aim at the BJP over its anti-drug campaign in the state, questioning its stance on the issue and alleging that drugs had entered Punjab through Gujarat. "People know everything," he said, attacking the BJP's narrative on the drug menace.
The BJP has been running its own Nasha Mukt Punjab campaign, accusing the state government of failing to control the drug problem. The AAP government has rejected the criticism, maintaining that it is taking steps to combat drugs and strengthen law enforcement.
The outreach comes amid intensifying political activity in Punjab before the 2027 elections. Starting from Dhuri, Mann and AAP workers are expected to reach households across the state, presenting the government's welfare schemes and development initiatives while seeking to counter the opposition's campaign against the state government. The party is positioning the drive as a direct connection with voters at the grassroots level.
