RSS Chief Bhagwat in New York: Krishna Consciousness Key to Global Harmony

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, currently on a three-nation tour, visited the ISKCON temple in New York on Friday. During his visit, he took part in a food distribution initiative for the homeless and addressed devotees, emphasizing the role of consciousness in bridging differences and resolving conflicts.

Bhagwat said that in a world marked by numerous conflicts and dualities, consciousness is the sole unifying force. He described this as Krishna Consciousness, asserting that despite apparent diversities and conflicts, everything is ultimately Krishna. He expressed hope that if this understanding reaches people's hearts, it could foster a more harmonious world, transforming it into a heavenly abode for all.

The visit precedes Bhagwat's scheduled address at the 'Universal Oneness Celebration' at Madison Square Garden on August 29. The event, part of the RSS centenary-year programmes, aims to convey a message of universal fraternity and harmony, reflecting the Indian cultural belief that the world is one family.

Bhagwat arrived in New York on Tuesday as part of his outreach tour covering the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The upcoming event has drawn criticism, with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressing personal disapproval while noting uncertainty about the city's jurisdiction to cancel a private gathering.

Meanwhile, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Shri Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, slated to attend, defended the right to protest while emphasizing the event's message of unity. RSS spokesperson Sunil Ambekar described the celebration as an interfaith gathering for a diverse audience. The Hindu American Foundation has issued a security advisory, urging attendees to remain vigilant and maintain civil interactions.
