Bhupen Hazarika Centenary Year to Close in Delhi with PM Modi

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the year-long birth centenary celebrations of legendary singer-composer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika will culminate in New Delhi on November 29. The concluding event is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be present.

Speaking on the occasion of Hazarika's 100th birth anniversary on September 8, Sarma noted that commemorative programmes were being held across Assam, with the state government making extensive arrangements for the events.

State Minister Bimal Borah also paid tribute to the Bharat Ratna awardee, stating that a day-long programme was organised at the Bhupen Hazarika Samanwaya Teerth. Borah said the initiative aims to honour the memory of the beloved singer and introduce his vast body of work to younger generations.

Born on September 8, 1926, in Tinsukia district, Hazarika left an enduring legacy as a musician, singer, composer, and poet. His contributions significantly shaped Assamese and Indian music and cinema, and he played a key role in bringing the culture of Assam to a wider audience. Hazarika passed away in 2011 at the age of 85.
