Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge lead tributes to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 100th birth anniversary.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led tributes on Tuesday as the nation commemorated the 100th birth anniversary of legendary musician and cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika. In a message on X, Sarma described Hazarika as more than a name, calling him an emotion that lives in the heart and soul of Assam.

The Chief Minister noted that the year-long nationwide celebrations of Hazarika's life have reaffirmed the enduring legacy of the 'Bard of the Brahmaputra'. He said the singer's voice carried Assam's spirit, stories, and dreams far beyond its shores, with his timeless music and profound words continuing to inspire generations.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute, hailing Hazarika as a gifted musician, poet, lyricist, and filmmaker deeply rooted in Assam's cultural heritage. Kharge said the Bharat Ratna awardee's art transcended borders and languages, becoming a powerful voice for humanity, harmony, and universal brotherhood.
