Andhra Pradesh Intermediate Board urged to shift to competency-based exams
PARAKH-NCERT CEO Indrani Bhaduri urges Andhra Pradesh's Intermediate Board to adopt competency-based assessments aligned with NEP 2020.
The head of the national assessment body PARAKH-NCERT has called on Andhra Pradesh's Board of Intermediate Education (BIEAP) to move away from conventional question-setting and embrace a competency-based approach to examinations.
Speaking at the BIEAP office in Tadepalli on Wednesday, Indrani Bhaduri, CEO and Head of PARAKH-NCERT, said question papers should be designed to evaluate students' understanding, application, analysis, and reasoning abilities rather than rote memorisation.
Prof. Bhaduri stressed that assessment practices must be strengthened in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. She appreciated the BIEAP's ongoing efforts to align its academic and evaluation processes with the policy's objectives.
She singled out the Board's adoption of the Integrated Test Management System (ITMS) as a significant step towards technology-enabled, systematic, and transparent assessment procedures.
Prof. Bhaduri also highlighted the role of the PARAKH Taxonomy — a framework designed to guide the creation of competency-based questions — in facilitating a gradual transformation of assessment practices across the country's education system.
She noted that the successful implementation of these reforms would require active collaboration among school education boards and other stakeholders.
