Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday visited relief camps to take stock of the arrangements for those displaced by the deluge. His inspection comes amid growing concerns over the scale of the crisis and the adequacy of the ongoing response.
In a parallel development, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has written to the Prime Minister urging the Centre to classify the current flooding as a 'national disaster'. He has also sought an immediate financial package of ₹5,000 crore to bolster relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions.
The demand for a higher category of disaster declaration stems from the severity of the inundation, which has disrupted lives and livelihoods across multiple districts. Officials, however, have indicated a cautious optimism, noting that the gradual fall in river levels in certain stretches could signal the beginning of an improvement, even as vigilance remains high where water continues to pose a threat.
