Bihar: Case Filed Against Six After Viral Video Shows Woman Assaulted at Mandar Hill

Police in Bihar's Banka district have registered a case against six unidentified men after a video surfaced showing a young woman being assaulted at Mandar Hill, a well-known tourist spot in the region. The footage, which shows the men misbehaving with the woman and striking her with slippers, is believed to have been recorded on September 3 but only came to the attention of authorities weeks later.

The clip reached the police on September 22 through the social media cell. It was received on the WhatsApp number of Bounsi Station House Officer Pankaj Kumar Jha, who then visited the location to verify where the incident had taken place. On the basis of his statement, a case was registered against the six unidentified accused, and the video has been made a key piece of evidence in the investigation.

According to the First Information Report, the six men were involved in indecent behaviour and obscene acts with the young woman. Investigators have since been trying to establish the identities of both the men and the woman seen in the footage, questioning residents living near Mandar Hill. Local shopkeepers told the police that the men appeared to be young, but were unable to identify them clearly.

Authorities said further legal action will follow in accordance with the law once those involved are traced. The incident at the tourist site has also prompted questions about the security arrangements in place there.

The case comes amid a string of similar episodes reported from the state in recent days. In Jamui, three people were arrested after a video showed a group harassing two Class 10 students, a boy and a girl. The footage showed the couple surrounded by men, one of whom grabbed the boy's shirt collar and pulled him away from the girl, while a masked man caught her from behind as she tried to run.

In a separate incident, a video from Samastipur showed four men on motorcycles surrounding a girl and a boy and abusing them verbally and physically. Those accused were also arrested.
