Bihar Opens All 36 Gandak Barrage Gates as Precaution Against Floods
Bihar opens all 36 gates of the Gandak Barrage at Valmikinagar as a precautionary measure, with evacuation plans and NDRF teams on standby.
In a precautionary move against potential flooding, the Bihar Water Resources Department has opened all 36 gates of the Gandak Barrage at Valmikinagar. A department official confirmed that a technical team, led by a superintending engineer, has been dispatched from headquarters to monitor the situation at the barrage.
Warning messages have been issued to all districts situated in the Gandak river basin. Departmental staff have been instructed to remain on continuous alert, with strengthened arrangements for storing flood-response materials and conducting regular inspections of embankments.
The state administration has begun preparing for possible evacuations. The Chief Secretary convened an emergency meeting with district magistrates of the affected areas, directing them to use public-address systems to alert residents living inside embankments. Officials have been tasked with ensuring arrangements are in place to move people to safer locations in time.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are being deployed to potentially affected areas to assist with relief and rescue operations.
