Bihar school headmaster, teacher arrested in sexual abuse case; third accused on the run
Bihar Police arrest headmaster and teacher of a Dumraon school over sexual abuse of girl students; third accused absconding.
Police in Bihar's Buxar district have arrested two staff members of a government middle school in Dumraon in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of girl students, including minors. The accused have been identified as headmaster Mohammad Imam Ali Ansari and teacher Arvind Kumar. A third teacher, Virendra Prasad, remains absconding, with police conducting raids at suspected hideouts.
The case was registered at the Krishnabrahmn police station following a complaint by the mother of a minor victim. The FIR invokes relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to police sources, the accused allegedly sexually exploited the girls over several months, circulated objectionable videos, and threatened the victims through audio messages to prevent them from speaking out.
Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya said the headmaster was arrested on September 3, followed by Kumar's arrest the next day. He noted that while the alleged incidents date back to January, making medical confirmation of rape difficult, investigators are gathering all possible evidence. Raids have also been conducted at a hotel where one of the girls was reportedly abused. Preliminary information suggests the primary victim is a former student, and police are probing whether other former students were affected.
Following the arrests, the Bihar Education Department has suspended both accused teachers and withdrawn Ansari's name from the State Teacher Award 2026, which he was scheduled to receive on September 5. District Education Officer Indra Kumar Karn confirmed that departmental proceedings have been initiated. The investigation has been handed over to the State Crime Investigation Department (CID).
Meanwhile, the Bihar Congress has demanded an inquiry into the selection process that led to the headmaster being chosen for the state award, questioning the criteria applied.
