Bihar Teacher Suspended Over Rs 1 Crore Withdrawn From School Accounts
Bihar education department suspends assistant teacher for withdrawing over Rs 1 crore from school accounts; inquiry ordered.
The Bihar Education Department has suspended an assistant teacher following an inquiry into serious financial irregularities at a school where he previously served as acting headmaster. The allegations include cash withdrawals exceeding Rs 1 crore from various accounts of Amshon Kunwar Higher Secondary School in Bharthipur, Vaishali district.
The teacher, currently posted at Videhi Project Girls' High School in Raipur, Samastipur, is accused of failing to maintain cashbooks for the student fund and development fund in accordance with financial rules. An official familiar with the matter said the withdrawals were made from different school accounts, with the total exceeding Rs 1 crore.
The inquiry also flagged irregularities related to vendors' GST numbers, tax deductions, and the purchase of materials without following prescribed procedures. The official noted that financial records were not maintained as required, with issues in transaction entries, vouchers, and documentation concerning vendors and purchases.
Before taking disciplinary action, the department sought an explanation from the teacher. After reviewing his response, authorities described the allegations as "serious financial misconduct" and ordered his suspension under the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules.
A formal chargesheet will now be issued, and a detailed departmental inquiry will examine the charges. The Regional Deputy Director of Education, Tirhut Division, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer, while the District Programme Officer (Secondary Education), Vaishali, will serve as the Presenting Officer. Further action will depend on the inquiry's outcome.
