Bihar Adds 100 MBBS Seats as NMC Clears Two New Medical Colleges
NMC approves two new medical colleges in Bihar, adding 100 MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic session.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted Letters of Permission to establish two new medical colleges in Bihar, adding 100 MBBS seats for the upcoming academic year. Government Medical College in Chhapra (Saran) and Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital in Samastipur will each admit 50 students annually starting from the 2026-27 session.
The approval follows applications submitted to the NMC's Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), which initially sought permission for 100 seats per institution. The final clearance, however, sanctioned 50 seats for each college.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda for the decision. He described the move as a significant step toward expanding medical education in the state, strengthening healthcare infrastructure, and creating new opportunities for young aspirants.
With classes set to begin, students from Samastipur and Chhapra districts will now have the option to pursue medical studies closer to home. The establishment of these institutions is also expected to improve access to specialised doctors and enhance treatment facilities for local patients.
The development marks a notable addition to Bihar's medical education landscape, with expectations of further seat increases in the future.
