Bipasha Basu flags worms in Isopure protein powder; brand says pack under review

Protein brand Isopure has said its quality team is examining a pack of its powder after actor Bipasha Basu alleged that she found worms inside a newly opened container.

In a video circulating on social media, Basu displayed what appeared to be a small worm on her finger and said several more were present in the container. "This Isopure is full of small worms. Tiny, tiny worms. The new dabba that we've opened," she said, adding that the product was compromised.

In a statement, the company said it had reached out to the actor promptly and appreciated her acknowledgement of its response. "ISOPURE remains firmly committed to maintaining high standards of product quality and consumer safety. We connected promptly with the concerned Indian celebrity consumer, addressed her immediate concern, and appreciate her acknowledgement of our response. Our Quality team is currently evaluating the pack for authenticity and quality," it said.

Basu also sought regulatory intervention, tagging Tukaram Mundhe, Commissioner of Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration, in an Instagram Story. "You are our only hope... So, we don't get spoilt or adulterated stuff in everything we purchase," she wrote.

The post comes amid heightened attention on food safety and hygiene concerns involving products and establishments in Maharashtra. The specific allegation regarding the protein powder has not been independently verified.

The development follows Basu's recent digital cover appearance for Elle, where she spoke about work, motherhood and making bold choices. Her latest social media update has shifted the focus to a consumer safety concern that has drawn widespread discussion online.
