BJP chief backs PM's 'angry uncle' jibe at Opposition

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin on Sunday defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's description of critical Opposition leaders as "naraaz fufa" (angry uncle), asserting that the characterisation accurately reflects politicians who prioritise personal interests over national progress.

In a video message posted on Facebook, Mr. Nabin said the Prime Minister's remark, made during a youth interaction at Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce on Saturday, was aimed at individuals who remain perpetually dissatisfied and cannot think positively.

"There are some people who remain dissatisfied within family and society and can never move forward or think in any positive direction. It was precisely such people whom Modi Ji referred to as 'naraaz fufa'," Mr. Nabin said.

Questioning the Opposition's anger, the BJP chief cited recent national achievements, including the abrogation of Article 370, the hoisting of the tricolour at Lal Chowk in Kashmir, and the ongoing eradication of Naxalism. He also asked why Opposition leaders were angry over the claim that 25 crore families have been lifted out of poverty.

Mr. Nabin said Opposition leaders cannot bear to see India's development, heritage, and culture moving forward because they remain "completely hidden in personal interests and personal prestige." He added that the situation of an "angry uncle" within a family now mirrors the stance of the Opposition in the country.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to the Viksit Bharat vision by 2047, Mr. Nabin said that 140 crore Indians have set out with this dream and that no amount of Opposition anger will halt the nation's development.

Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi criticised Mr. Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over police action against protesting students in Bihar.
