BJP hits back at Congress over GDP data, calls criticism 'dimagi Naxal' mindset

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply responded to the Congress party's criticism of recent GDP figures, with party MP Anil Baluni characterizing the opposition's stance as a 'dimagi Naxal' (mental Naxal) mindset.
Baluni's remarks came as he sought to contextualize the current statistical exercise, emphasizing that the practice of rebasing economic data is not a novel initiative introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.
Highlighting the historical precedent, Baluni noted that the present rebasing exercise marks the ninth such revision since India's independence. He further pointed out that during the Congress party's tenure in power, there were five instances of similar revisions to the economic data framework.
The BJP leader's comments are aimed at deflecting what the ruling party perceives as politically motivated attacks on the government's economic reporting, arguing that the methodology has been consistently applied across different administrations over the decades.
