BJP seeks Punjab CM's resignation after activist's death
BJP demands Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann's resignation over the death of Gulzar Singh, who alleged drug abuse and harassment.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann following the death of a man who had questioned a state minister about the drug menace in his village.
At a press conference, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused the state government of failing to address rising drug abuse. He said Gulzar Singh of Sangrur had approached Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, complaining that his son was addicted to drugs and urging action to protect the youth.
Bhatia alleged that Gulzar Singh was subsequently threatened and harassed, and was forced to record a video holding four individuals responsible for his plight. He later died in a hospital. The BJP leader described the video as a dying declaration and demanded legal action under the SC/ST Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with the resignation of both Mann and Cheema.
