Kalaburagi Police Book BJP Leaders Over Unauthorised Protest, Vandalism
Kalaburagi police registered a case against BJP leaders, including a former MLA, for an unauthorised protest that blocked traffic and damaged property.
The Kalaburagi city police have initiated legal action against several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionaries following an unauthorised demonstration in the city. Among those named in the First Information Report (FIR) are former MLA Rajkumar Patil Telkur and BJP Kalaburagi Rural district president Ashok Bagali, along with other party workers.
The case stems from a protest and procession held on Wednesday. The demonstrators had assembled at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Circle and were marching towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The gathering was organised to press the State government to declare drought-hit areas.
According to the police complaint, the protest turned disruptive when participants allegedly halted autos, motorcycles, cars, and buses on the main road near the Deputy Commissioner's office. It is further alleged that a group led by Mr. Telkur verbally abused and threatened motorists who attempted to pass through the area.
The complaint also accuses Mr. Telkur of a specific act of vandalism: removing a motorcyclist's helmet and smashing it on the ground.
A case has been registered under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 189(2), 191(2), 223, 126(2), 324(4), 352, 351(2), and 190. Police sources confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
