BJP MLA's Garba Remark on Muslim Women Draws AIMIM Backlash
A BJP MLA's suggestion that Muslim families send their daughters and sisters to Garba events has drawn sharp criticism from AIMIM, which called the remark divisive.
A remark by a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator urging Muslim families to send their daughters and sisters to Garba celebrations has triggered a political row, with the AIMIM's state unit accusing him of deepening communal divisions.
Rameshwar Sharma, the BJP MLA at the centre of the controversy, made the suggestion in comments that quickly drew attention across political circles.
Responding to the statement, AIMIM State president Mohsin Ali Khan said the legislator's words were divisive in nature. He urged Sharma to raise the matter with senior leaders within his own party rather than making public remarks that, in his view, work against national unity.
"I want to tell Rameshwar Sharma ji that what he has said definitely works to divide this country. He should now take this up with his senior leaders in the Bharatiya Janata Party," Khan said.
The exchange marks the latest flashpoint over cultural and religious participation in public festivities, with the AIMIM leader framing the MLA's comments as an attempt to create friction between communities.
