BJP to Launch 13-Day 'Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra' Ahead of 2027 Assembly Polls
The BJP will run a 13-day anti-drug campaign across Punjab from September 18 to 30, ending with a Jalandhar rally expected to be attended by Amit Shah.
The BJP is set to launch a statewide anti-drug campaign in Punjab, with the "Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra" scheduled to run from September 18 to September 30, party sources said. The march will begin in Pathankot, pass through large parts of the state over 13 days, and conclude with a major rally in Jalandhar.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin is expected to flag off the yatra, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to attend the concluding event. Five major rallies are planned along the route.
The campaign comes months before Punjab goes to the polls, with the AAP government facing criticism over law and order and the state's drug problem. The BJP appears to be positioning itself on the issue ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Beyond the rallies, the party is preparing a "drug abuse chargesheet" — a document outlining its allegations against the AAP government's handling of narcotics control — which will be distributed during the campaign. Families affected by addiction are expected to share their experiences at several stops, with personal stories forming a key part of the messaging.
The BJP also plans to involve NGOs working on de-addiction, youth clubs, sports bodies, rehabilitation centres and village-level anti-drug committees. Pledge-signing drives against drug use are scheduled at multiple locations along the route, and a women-centric outreach programme under the Nari Shakti banner is planned, along with visits to rehabilitation centres.
According to sources, the party aims to reach nearly three crore people through ground events, local engagement initiatives and a social media campaign. A BJP delegation is also expected to visit the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh during the yatra.
The BJP has frequently used yatras to expand its grassroots presence, and Punjab appears to be its latest focus. The campaign's logo is expected to be unveiled shortly, marking its formal launch.
