BJP Telangana chief Ramchander Rao arrested en route to Jurala project protest

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao was arrested by police in Jadcherla on Tuesday while he was on his way to the Jurala irrigation project site, where farmers have been pressing for the release of water to save their standing crops. He was subsequently moved to the district police training centre.
The arrest drew a sharp response from senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and MP D.K. Aruna, who condemned the action and sought Mr. Rao's immediate release. Several other party leaders were placed under house arrest.
The leaders questioned the State government's commitment to farmers' welfare and cautioned that it would face serious consequences if water was not released in time to protect the crops.
The BJP accused the Congress government of resorting to repressive measures, alleging that its actions had gone further than those seen under the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime. The party also described the government's conduct as anti-democratic.
