Mangalore Health Officials Raid Blinkit Facility Over Maggot Complaint
Karnataka health officials raided a Blinkit facility in Mangalore after a consumer reported maggots in eggs, ordering removal of damaged packets.
Health authorities in Karnataka intensified their scrutiny of quick-commerce platforms on Thursday, conducting a raid on a Blinkit facility in Mangalore following a consumer complaint about maggots in eggs.
The action was initiated after a customer alerted the health minister to finding worms in eggs purchased through the platform. Officials subsequently inspected the outlet located at Falnir Square in Mangalore.
During the raid, inspectors discovered packets containing damaged eggs. They directed the outlet to immediately remove these affected packets from its inventory, raising fresh concerns about quality control in the online grocery sector.
This incident follows a series of similar actions against quick-commerce companies. Last month, the health department sealed a Zepto warehouse in Bengaluru after finding organic waste, discarded wrappers, and bottles on the premises. That inspection also flagged issues such as non-compliant labelling, misbranding, and unhygienic food handling.
Earlier this week, Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration suspended the state food licence of Blink Commerce Private Limited, Blinkit's parent entity, at its Akola outlet. That decision came after a re-inspection revealed hygiene and storage violations.
