Hyderabad Police Detain Woman Under PD Act Over Illegal Liquor Sales in Borabanda

Borabanda police on Saturday executed preventive detention orders against a 45-year-old woman accused of repeatedly selling liquor illegally through a belt shop in the area.

The accused, Vemula Sarala, a resident of Banjara Nagar in Borabanda, is alleged to have run the belt shop for several years and to have been involved in multiple cases linked to unauthorised liquor sales, police said.

The detention was carried out under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, following orders issued by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.

Police cautioned anyone operating belt shops or selling liquor without a valid licence in Borabanda to cease such activity. Cases will be registered under the Telangana Excise Act, and repeat offenders may face action under the PD Act, they said.

Those who provide premises or shelter for belt shops could also be named as accused, police added.

Residents have been asked to report illegal liquor sales through Dial 112, with police assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
