Brad Pitt Returns as Cliff Booth in First Full Trailer for Netflix Film

Netflix has released the first extended trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, bringing Brad Pitt back to the role of the stuntman-turned-fixer he originated in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.

Pitt, 62, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for that performance at the 2020 ceremony. The new project hands directing duties to David Fincher, while Tarantino returns to the character's world as screenwriter. It marks the first time Pitt and Fincher have worked together since The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008; the two had earlier collaborated on Se7en and Fight Club.

Set in 1977, eight years after the events of the earlier film, the story follows Cliff as he takes on odd jobs and works as a fixer in a Hollywood that has changed around him. The official synopsis notes that the city no longer has the same need for a "hippie-slaying stuntman", but that its problems still require someone with Cliff's particular, occasionally extralegal, talents. Between shifts bartending and working as a projectionist, he solves situations for the industry's greats and, sometimes, its not-so-good.

The plot is set in motion by a call from talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, acting on behalf of her client Charlie Peters, a television megastar portrayed by Scott Caan who is known for performing his own stunts. Cliff is drawn further into Peters's orbit through characters including the star's wife Toni, played by Carla Gugino, and former professional football champion turned screen actor Roderick "Hot Rod" Harrison, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The story also introduces the Verdusco brothers, mysterious gangsters played by Matt Groove and JB Tadena, whose activities lend a criminal undercurrent to the proceedings. The synopsis describes the film as a crime story and "a cocktail of violence, ambition, and desire that could only happen in LA".

The trailer is the first major look at the film since a surprise teaser aired during Super Bowl LX in February. Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian also appear in the cast alongside Debicki, Abdul-Mateen II, Caan and Gugino.

The film continues Pitt's association with Tarantino, following Inglourious Basterds in 2009 and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. While it references Leonardo DiCaprio's character Rick Dalton from the earlier film, DiCaprio does not appear to be involved in the production.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will have a two-week exclusive IMAX theatrical run beginning November 25 before arriving on Netflix on December 23. Pitt's other upcoming release, Heart of the Beast, is scheduled to reach theatres on September 25, and he is also set to return for another World War Z film, to be directed by Edward Berger.
