Brazilian beef shipments to China could exhaust the 2027 quota of 1.128 million metric tons by March or April, the head of industry group Abiec said on Thursday, pointing to the early start of exports destined for next year's allowance.
Roberto Perosa told journalists that shipments intended to fulfil the 2027 quota at lower tariff rates are expected to begin in November 2026. The early launch of those flows, he said, risks consuming the entire volume well before the year is out.
China raised Brazil's beef quota for 2027 by only about 20,000 tons over the 2026 level, a modest increase that leaves little room for a faster pace of exports.
Perosa called on the government to introduce measures that would control the speed of shipments so the quota is not used up too quickly.
He also flagged uncertainty over Chinese demand once sales resume, noting that the country is holding high stocks of its main proteins. That overhang, he suggested, could weigh on how quickly the quota is absorbed.
The comments place the focus on the timing and management of Brazil's beef trade with its largest buyer, and on whether policy tools can stretch the 2027 allowance across the year.
