Brazil's July Tax Revenue Hits Record High on Strong Corporate Collections

Brazil's federal tax revenue hit a record July high, rising 8.97% in real terms to 289.3 billion reais.

Brazil's federal tax revenue reached an all-time high for the month of July, according to official data released on Tuesday. The collection totaled 289.346 billion reais (approximately $56.17 billion), marking an 8.97% increase in real terms compared to the same month last year. This is the strongest July performance since the government's historical record-keeping began in 1995.

The robust monthly figure extends a trend of strong collection, which is central to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's strategy of improving public finances through increased revenue rather than spending cuts. For the first seven months of 2025, total federal revenue grew 6.98% in real terms, outpacing inflation, and reached 1.877 trillion reais.

The tax authority attributed the July surge to higher receipts from several key categories. These included payroll taxes, earnings on fixed-income investments, interest on equity payments, and corporate income taxes.

Additionally, revenue administered by other government agencies saw a substantial jump of 28.87% in real terms from a year earlier. This particular segment is heavily influenced by oil royalty payments, which have been buoyed by high international crude prices amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
