BRS legislators take Telangana police conduct complaint to NCW, NHRC
A BRS delegation complained to the NCW and NHRC about Telangana Police's alleged misconduct toward women legislators outside the Assembly on September 7.
A delegation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators has approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi, complaining about the conduct of Telangana Police toward women legislators outside the Assembly premises in Hyderabad on September 7.
The delegation included former Ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Satyavathi Rathod and G. Jagadish Reddy, along with legislators Kova Laxmi, S. Vani Devi and P. Rajeshwar Reddy. MPs V. Ravichandra and D. Damodar Rao, and legal cell members Lalitha Reddy and S. Bharath Kumar, were also part of the group.
The legislators told the two commissions that the police attempted to stifle them and behaved indecently with party leaders, including by pulling their sarees. They also said they were prevented from entering the Assembly premises.
The delegation met NCW Chairperson Vijaya K. Rahatkar and NHRC member Vijaya Bharathi. It urged both bodies to direct the state police to preserve CCTV footage of the incident, noting that no FIR had been registered on their complaint even 100 hours after the event.
The Women's Commission assured the legislators that it would seek a report from the Director General of Police.
