Telangana Council Suspends Two BRS MLCs Over Remarks Against Speaker
Two BRS MLCs suspended for rest of session over alleged derogatory remarks against Assembly Speaker; resolution also demands KCR apology.
The Telangana Legislative Council on Tuesday suspended two BRS members, Tata Madhu and Naveen Kumar Reddy, for the remainder of the session. The action followed allegations that they made derogatory and unparliamentary remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on September 7 inside the Assembly precincts.
Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu moved the suspension resolution, which the House adopted unanimously. Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy announced the suspension and adjourned the session. The Council's decision came after the Legislative Assembly passed a similar resolution and forwarded it to the Council.
The resolution also called on Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekhar Rao to take responsibility for the conduct of his party members and tender an unconditional apology to the Speaker to uphold institutional integrity and decorum.
It strongly condemned the alleged utterances by the two MLCs, stating that no political disagreement or personal grievance can justify conduct that lowers the dignity of the Presiding Officer. The resolution also took note of the members' indecent behaviour of removing their t-shirts in public before women, which it said amounted to outraging the modesty of those present.
Earlier, Health Minister Damodar Rajnarismha moved a resolution demanding action against the two MLCs, seconded by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. The motion was moved while Pro-tem Speaker Kadiyam Srihari was in the Chair, as Speaker Prasad Kumar was not present.
Following the suspension, other BRS MLCs raised slogans against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy outside the House. The two suspended members had been arrested by police earlier in the day.
