Turmeric Water 'Purification' After Dalit Protest Sparks Row in Siddipet

A ritual performed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) workers near the farmhouse of party president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Siddipet district has triggered a political controversy. The workers allegedly sprinkled turmeric water on roads and public spaces in Erravalli village on Wednesday, in what they described as a 'purification' exercise.
The development comes a day after Congress workers and Dalit organisations held a 'Chavu-Dappu' (funeral drum-beating) protest in the same locality. The BRS workers reportedly targeted the routes and areas through which the protesters had marched.
Visuals from the scene showed BRS women's leader Pavani Goud of Hyderabad among those participating in the turmeric-water sprinkling near the former Chief Minister's farmhouse. The act has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties, who view it as an insult to the Dalit community.
