A Kerala BTech student was arrested for morphing photos of female classmates. He was released on bail; probe ongoing.
A 22-year-old BTech student was arrested on Saturday on charges of morphing photographs of his female classmates and storing the edited images on his mobile phone and laptop. The accused, identified as Ajmal T. Muhammed, a native of Changanassery, is a fourth-year student at a private college in Ettumanur.
According to the police, Ajmal frequently used his latest-model smartphone to take pictures of his classmates, which made him a popular choice among friends for photography. Students told investigators that he had also photographed students from other colleges during camps and other events.
The matter came to light recently when some of his friends, while working on a college magazine, accessed his laptop and discovered morphed images of female students. They alerted the college authorities and the police, leading to his arrest.
The police said the morphed images found on his devices included photographs of students from his class. So far, a forensic examination of his mobile phone and laptop has found no evidence that the images were uploaded to any website or shared with others through groups or other platforms.
A case has been registered against Ajmal under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The investigation, including a forensic examination by the cyber cell, is continuing. Ajmal was later arrested and released on bail.
