No incriminating material in Kolaghat house search, police tell Calcutta High Court
Calcutta High Court closes proceedings against a 2024 suo motu FIR after police report no incriminating material was found in a Kolaghat house search.
The Purba Medinipur police have told the Calcutta High Court that a search carried out at a house in Kolaghat yielded no incriminating material, in a matter linked to a suo motu FIR registered during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The officer-in-charge of the Kolaghat police station placed a report before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya. According to the report, the raid and search at the premises were conducted while the model code of conduct was in force for the 2024 general elections, acting on information received from sources. It stated that nothing incriminating was recovered and that the episode appeared to stem from a "miscommunication."
The FIR had been lodged suo motu by the then officer-in-charge of the Kolaghat police station on May 22, 2024. The High Court stayed that FIR on May 24, 2024.
Appearing for the petitioner, advocate Mayukh Mukherjee submitted that the suo motu case had been registered on the basis of alleged information that country-made bombs and cash were stored at the premises. In light of the police report, he said he was not pressing the petition further.
Justice Bhattacharyya recorded that the petitioner did not wish to pursue the matter and dismissed the petition as "not pressed."
